Jessica Riley pitched a five-hit shutout and Londyn Backfisch homered as the Kelly softball team beat visiting Central 4-0 on Wednesday.

Riley struck out two and walked two as the Hawks improved their record to 10-2.

Backfisch and Casey Kern both had two hits for the Hawks. Kern drove in two runs.

Central's Amanda Nichols struck out nine, walked six and allowed six hits. She and Sirena Watkins both had two hits.

The Tigers return to action Saturday when they play in the Jackson tournament.

Lauren Reinagel and Heather Menz combined for a two-hitter in Notre Dame's six-inning win against the visiting Red Devils.

Reinagel pitched the first three innings, and Menz threw the second three, allowing only two singles in the final frame.

Reinagel had two hits, as did Erika Reinagel for the unbeaten Bulldogs (9-0).

Notre Dame tries to start the season with 10 wins today when it travels to Jackson.

Kristen Wengert came on in relief for the Indians and threw five innings, striking out four. Elizabeth Rozier went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Indians (3-5).

Delta returns to action Saturday when it plays in the St. Vincent tournament.

Joda Holloway, Brock Dirnberger, Ty Williams and Ryan Willen scored the goals for the Bulldogs (7-1).

Notre Dame goalie Ryan Bass had seven saves.
