Reisenbichler, Darnell, Bryant stay in title contention at state wrestling meet

Only three of the 11 area competitors won their first-round matches Thursday on the first day of the Missouri State Wrestling Championships in Columbia, Mo.

Jackson posted two of the victories in the Class 4 meet, while Central's lone qualifier notched the other win in the Class 3 competition.

Jackson 106-pound sophomore Jarrett Reisenbichler, Jackson 220-pound junior Clay Darnell and Central senior heavyweight Chris Bryant all advanced to today's quarterfinals.

Reisenbichler, who has lost just once all season -- by injury default in the district final -- pinned Austin Hanson of Lee's Summit North in 1 minute, 22 seconds.

Darnell beat Levi Nunn of Ozark 2-0.

Bryant pinned Joe Isaacs of Westminster Christian Academy in 1:03.

Four of Jackson's five opening-round losers won first-round wrestleback matches to remain alive in the tournament.

Advancing to today's wrestleback competition for the Indians were 113-pound senior Kodi Byrd, 120-pound freshman Jake Byrd, 138-pound senior Tyler Rush and 182-pound sophomore Josh Stone.

Clayton Collier, Jackson's 152-pound sophomore, lost both his matches and was eliminated.

Notre Dame's four qualifiers in Class 2 all dropped first-round matches: 106-pound sophomore Noah Huff, 132-pound junior Aaron Schlosser, 138-pound senior Austin Harter and 170-pound junior Joseph Yuede.

Only Huff won his first-round wrestleback match to remain alive in the tournament.
