Reds end their streak, put Griffey on DL

CHICAGO -- Luis Pineda won in his first major league start, and the Cincinnati Reds hit three home runs in snapping an eight-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory Tuesday over the Chicago Cubs.

The Reds improved to 26-16 without outfielder Ken Griffey Jr., placed on the 15-day disabled list before the game with a strained right hamstring. Cincinnati is 13-20 when he is active.

Pineda (1-3) allowed three hits in five innings for his first major league win. Danny Graves pitched the ninth for his 22nd save.

Sean Casey, Aaron Boone and Russell Branyan hit solo homers for the Reds, who beat Matt Clement (5-5). Former Reds infielder Chris Stynes hit a two-run homer for the Cubs.

Padres 10, Giants 7

SAN DIEGO -- Barry Bonds hit his 592nd career home run right after a dugout tussle with teammate Jeff Kent, who also homered in the San Francisco loss.

Kent criticized his teammate for a standoffish attitude as Bonds was setting a baseball record with 73 homers last season. Bonds appeared to shove Kent in the chest between the second and third innings, and they had to be separated. TV replays showed that trainer Stan Conte and manager Dusty Baker also were involved.

PITTSBURGH -- Kris Benson earned his first major league victory since 2000, pitching five strong innings as Pittsburgh ended a six-game losing streak.

NEW YORK -- Steve Trachsel retired the first 15 batters, and the Mets beat Greg Maddux's replacement to halt Atlanta's six-game winning streak.

HOUSTON -- Jeff Bagwell and Geoff Blum hit two-run homers in the eighth inning as Houston beat Arizona.

Phillies 7, Marlins 6

MIAMI -- Jimmy Rollins scored a career-high four runs, including the go-ahead run in the 11th inning, as Philadelphia beat Florida.

LOS ANGELES -- Odalis Perez pitched his second one-hitter of the season, getting help from a pair of diving catches from right fielder Shawn Green for the Dodgers.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Jose Cruz Jr. went 4-for-5 with a career-high six RBIs, and Carlos Delgado homered and drove in five runs as Toronto had its highest-scoring game in 24 years.
