The Southeast Missouri State softball team exchanged shutouts with nonconference opponent St. Louis University on Tuesday.
After dropping the first game 3-0, the Redhawks romped 9-0 in a second game, which was shortened to five innings by the eight-run mercy rule.
Southeast, which had a seven-game winning streak snapped in the opener, is 21-10. The Redhawks have won 17 of their last 20 games.
Elaine Fisher, who had pitched two straight shutouts, saw her streak of 21 2/3 scoreless innings end when SLU (13-16) scored three runs in the third. Fisher (9-7) allowed nine hits, with seven strikeouts and one walk.
The Redhawks had just five hits -- two by Michelle Summers -- off SLU's Ashley Levan, who fanned 11.
Southeast had 10 hits in the nightcap, led by Lindsay Pickering. She had a home run among her two hits and drove in four runs.
Freshmen Jenn Monaghan and Lauren Bradley both had two hits, while Summers added two RBIs.
Stephanie Huffman (11-3) allowed two hits in four innings, with four strikeouts and one walk. Freshman Jessica Rosencrants pitched the fifth.
The Redhawks resume Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend with a home series against Tennessee State. The Redhawks are in second place at 8-1.
