Redhawks will gain national exposure

~ The women's team will appear on ESPNU once this season.

The Southeast Missouri State men's basketball team will have two nationally televised games this season.

Southeast's contest at Murray State on Jan. 26 will be televised on ESPN2, with a 2 p.m. tipoff.

The Redhawks' home game with Austin Peay on Jan. 29 will be televised on ESPNU, with a 6 p.m. tipoff at the Show Me Center.

Southeast will be part of the Ohio Valley Conference's only regular-season game shown on either ESPN or ESPN2.

The OVC tournament championship game will be on ESPN, with both semifinals on ESPNU.

"It's great to get the national exposure, and I'm happy we have a home game on national television that will enable viewers across the country to see our great facility and our great fans," Southeast coach Scott Edgar said in a release. "Our goal is to advance through the OVC tournament, which would give us two more national exposures."

The Southeast women will also appear on national television. The Redhawks' Feb. 2 home game against Tennessee-Martin will be on ESPNU, with a 3 p.m. tipoff.

Two playing in Europe

Two former Southeast basketball players are competing with European professional teams.

Roy Booker, a guard who played at Southeast for one season in 2005-06, recently signed with Aris Friesland in The Netherlands.

William "Bud" Eley, a center who played at Southeast for four seasons from 1995 to 1999, is continuing his professional career with Grupo Capitol in Spain. Eley has been playing in Europe since 1999.

Booker played in Turkey last season, averaging 10 points and three rebounds per game. He also spent time in the Dominican Republic, where he averaged 13 points and five rebounds per game.

The regular season in Holland will begin Oct. 6. In preseason games, Booker is averaging 21 points and four rebounds per game for the first division team.

Booker led the OVC in scoring during the 2005-06 season, averaging 22 points per game.

Eley is the leading career rebounder at Southeast and ranks as the fourth-leading scorer. He had 1,686 points and 995 rebounds during his Southeast career.
