MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The Southeast Missouri State softball team extended its impressive winning streak Wednesday by sweeping a nonconference doubleheader from host Middle Tennessee State.
The Redhawks romped 11-0 and 12-3 as they have now posted eight consecutive victories. They improved to 12-7, while dropping the Raiders to 7-19-1.
Southeast banged out 13 hits in each game, including four home runs in the opener and another in the nightcap.
Elaine Fisher pitched the first-game shutout, in a game that was shortened to six innings because of the run rule. She allowed four hits and no walks while striking out three.
Freshmen Jenn Monaghan and Lauren Bradley, along with Stephanie Mata and Stephanie Huffman, all homered.
Lindsay Pickering went 3-for-3, while Megan McDonald had three hits and drove in two runs.
Bradley and Huffman both added two hits, with Huffman and Mata each delivering three RBIs.
Huffman, who picked up all three wins during last weekend's Ohio Valley Conference-opening series at Austin Peay, notched another victory in Wednesday's nightcap.
Huffman allowed seven hits and three runs in four innings. Freshman Jessica Rosencrants hurled three scoreless frames, allowing one hit.
Michelle Summers homered in this game, as she had two hits and four RBIs.
Bradley had two hits and three RBIs and Monaghan had two hits and two RBIs. Charlene Ramirez and Callie Brittan both added two hits.
Southeast, 3-0 in the OVC, resumes conference play this weekend with a three-game home series against Tennessee-Martin. There will be a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and a 1 p.m. single contest Sunday.
