The Southeast Missouri State volleyball team climbed above .500 in Ohio Valley Conference play by rolling past visiting Murray State Friday night.
The Redhawks won 30-23, 30-24, 30-24 to improve to 7-12 overall and 4-3 in the OVC. The Racers fell to 3-11 and 1-6.
Jackson High School graduate Jessica Koeper led a balanced Southeast attack with 13 kills. She also had a team-high 15 digs.
Jill Miller had 10 kills and 14 digs, while Jamie Baumstark recorded 12 kills, 45 assists, nine digs and three service aces.
Brenna Schlader added 10 kills, and Lauren Scannell had 10 digs.
Alison Mugler led Murray State with 13 kills and 14 digs. Leopold High School product Holly Jansen had eight kills.
Southeast has another conference home match today, facing Tennessee-Martin (2-23, 0-7) at 2 p.m.
Southeast tennis players did not win any matches Friday in the second day of the ITA Southern Regional Championships, but coach Jay Pacelli was certainly pleased with his team's performance.
The event, taking place at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., features players from 23 NCAA Division I schools. Southeast began with four players in the tournament, which concludes Sunday.
"These are the top players and teams in the country we're playing against," Pacelli said. "We've been competitive, and we're playing hard."
In doubles matches, Southeast's duo of Bryce Kristal and Drew Kristal lost 8-5 to Tarryn Rudman and Kacie Anson of Georgia Tech in the "A" division, and Luz Garcia and Juliana Negosek of Southeast fell 8-2 to fourth-seeded Alina Mihailescu and Ania Rynarzewska of Florida State in the "B" division.
Bryce Kristal lost to Tsitsi Masviba of Troy University 6-2, 6-2 in the "A" singles division. Garcia fell 7-5, 7-5 (11-9) to Grace Kammerer of Southern Mississippi in the "B" division, and Negosek lost 6-2, 6-3 to Shamiaa Elsisi of Troy.
Drew Kristal is the only singles player still in action for Southeast. Kristal will play this morning in the second round of the consolation bracket.
