Southeast Missouri State sophomore guard Sonya Daugherty has been one of the Ohio Valley Conference's top players over the past few weeks.
On Monday, Daugherty was rewarded for her recent strong performances by being named the OVC co-player of the week.
Daugherty averaged 21.5 points, 3.5 assists and three steals last week as the Redhawks won a pair of games.
She scored a career-high 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting against Tennessee State, then against Tennessee Tech she scored 17 points and dished out a career-best six assists.
Daugherty is averaging 11.5 points per game on the season, which ranks third on the team.
But in OVC play, the St. Louis native is the Redhawks' leading scorer at 15.2 points per game, which places her No. 4 in the entire conference.
"Sonya has really come on," Southeast acting head coach John Ishee said. "She's always been a very good offensive player, but she's doing a lot of other things for us, especially playing well defensively."
The Redhawks (13-5, 8-2 OVC) have won 10 of their last 11 games.
Southeast visits Morehead State (9-9, 8-2) Wednesday in a matchup between teams tied for second place in the OVC. Both squads trail first-place Murray State by one-half game.
