The Southeast Missouri State University women's soccer team bounced back from its first conference loss with a 1-0 road victory over Eastern Kentucky on Sunday.
The Redhawks' Alaina Lacopo scored the game's lone goal when her shot from 20 yards out deflected off a defender and past Colonels goalkeeper Christina Graul and into the top left-hand corner with four minutes remaining in the game. The goal was unassisted.
"It was a great shot and just an unlucky break for us," Eastern Kentucky head coach Lindsay Basalyga said.
Southeast had controlled the action throughout with 20 shots to EKU's three. The Redkhawks also had seven corner kicks to three for the Colonels. Graul made nine saves, while Southeast goalkeeper Lindsay Pickering made just two saves.
Southeast, which fell 2-0 to Morehead State on Friday, improved to 3-1-1 in OVC play and 8-3-1 overall.
EKU fell to 1-5 in the conference and 1-10-1 overall.
Southeast returns to action at 7 p.m. on Friday, when Jacksonville State visits Houck Stadium.
Zeiler finishes fifth at SIU
Lindsay Zeiler finished fifth at the Saluki Cross Country Invitational to lead Southeast Missouri State's runners at the Saturday event in Carbondale, Ill.
The Redhawks also got a top-10 finish from Jen Caywood in 10th. Zeiler ran a 18:29, while Caywood finished in 18:56.
Kris Woolf finished 14th for Southeast's women in 19:05, followed by Amy Warren in 24th (19:38) and Juli Koenegstein in 25th (19:40).
Southeast finished third in the women's team standings. SIU was first, followed by Southern Indiana.
Danny Stults led the men with a 14th-place finish in 26:11. Gabe Lutes and Chris Herren were 21st and 23rd, respectively, in 26:21 and 26:24. Southeast's men finished fourth.
Southeast will have the week off before hosting the annual Southeast Invitational on October 22 at Capaha Park.
