Redhawks soccer suffers 2-1 loss to EIU

The Southeast Missouri State soccer team fell out of first place in the Ohio Valley Conference on Friday by losing 2-1 at Eastern Illinois.

Southeast is now 5-5 overall and 2-1 in OVC play after having its two-match winning streak snapped. EIU improved to 4-5-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the OVC.

Kellie Floyd scored both goals for the Panthers, after netting just one goal previously this season.

Floyd's penalty kick with 5 minutes remaining in the first half gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

The Redhawks tied the contest just 6 minutes into the second half, as Alaina Lacopo scored an unassisted goal from about 10 yards out. It was her third goal of the season.

Floyd's second goal of the day, with only 10 minutes left, came from about 10 yards out and was the game-winner.

The defensive-minded contest produced a 10-8 edge for EIU in shots. Southeast had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Southeast keeper Lindsay Pickering, who had recorded shutouts in the Redhawks' first two OVC games, was credited with just one save. EIU keeper Jenny Williams made two saves.

The Redhawks fell to 2-9-1 all-time against the Panthers. Southeast returns to action Friday at Austin Peay.

Volleyball rolls at EKU

The Southeast volleyball team rolled post host Eastern Kentucky Friday, beating the defending OVC regular-season co-champion and preseason favorite 30-9, 30-16, 30-16.

Southeast improved to 8-8 overall and 2-1 in OVC play. The Colonels fell to 8-9 and 1-2.

Brenna Schlader had 13 kills and five blocks for the Redhawks. Jamie Baumstark recorded 33 assists, while Jessica Koeper led in digs with 17 and Molly Davis added 11.

The Redhawks remain in Kentucky today to play Morehead State at 1 p.m.
