Redhawks' Smith named Male Athlete of OVC Indoor Track and Field Championships

Southeast Missouri State track and field athlete Blake Smith was named the Male Athlete of the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship.

The Jackson High School graduate won two events en route to the men's first championship since the 1996 indoor season.

Smith was first place in the long jump and 55-meter dash. His jump of 25-feet, 4 1/2 inches ranked 11th nationally and secured him a spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships, where he finished 14th.

Kashina honored

Southeast tennis player Valeriia Kashina earned OVC Athlete of the Week after going unbeaten in Southeast's three matches last week.

The freshman has won her last five matches, and did not lose a set last week.

She and doubles partner Ekaterina Donetckova were unbeaten at No. 1 doubles last week.
