Southeast Missouri State baseball coach Mark Hogan has announced his program's second signee during the week-long early signing period that began Wednesday.
The Redhawks' latest addition is catcher Jesse Tierney, a senior at Vianney High School in St Louis.
Tierney, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound left-handed hitter, batted .364 with 12 doubles and one home run as a junior last season.
Tierney is a former teammate of current Southeast players Jim Klocke and Josh Syberg. In 2004, that trio helped lead Vianney to the Class 4 state championship.
"Jesse is a player that is going to continue to improve thanks to his tireless work ethic. He projects very well as an everyday player, and with maturity he can be a dominant hitter at the Division I level," Hogan said in a release. "Jesse is a tremendous young man, and he can make an immediate impact for us during his first season."
Wednesday, Southeast signed Goreville (Ill.) High School senior shortstop Kenton Parmley.
Gymnasts sign one
The Southeast gymnastics program has signed one athlete so far.
Emily Mann, a high school senior from Lincoln, Neb., has been a Nebraska state champion and a national Junior Olympics qualifier while maintaining a 3.957 grade-point average.
"Emily is what we look for in our students; great gymnastics and outstanding academics," Southeast coach Tom Farden said in a release. "She is a tough competitor that will be able to add depth on each event."
