Hunt signs with AFL

Former Southeast defensive end Kyle Hunt signed a professional contract Tuesday with the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League.

Hunt, who completed his eligibility at Southeast in 2006, will return to play on the defensive line after playing tight end in training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles this summer before being cut.

Four other former Southeast players are currently continuing their careers in the National Football League.

Eugene Amano is a reserve offensive lineman for the Tennessee Titans, Edgar Jones is a reserve outside linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, Dimitri Patterson is a reserve cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs and offensive lineman Dan Connolly is on the New England Patriots' practice squad.

Padilla signs contract

A second member of the 2007 Southeast baseball team has signed a contract with an independent league squad.

Second baseman Omar Padilla, who led the 2007 Redhawks with a .325 batting average, recently agreed to terms with the two-time Northern League champion Gary (Ind.) SouthShore RailCats.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity," Padilla said.

Earlier this year, pitcher/outfielder Asif Shah signed with the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League.
