Redhawks net first win of season

The Southeast Missouri State tennis team finally broke through Sunday.

Southeast won its first match of the season, beating visiting Tennesee State 4-2 in an Ohio Valley Conference contest.

The Redhawks are 1-16 overall and 1-5 in the OVC. TSU fell to 0-9 and 0-6.

Southeast won four of six singles matches to clinch the victory. The doubles matches were rained out.

Julia Masotti, Elise Nattier, Anna LeBoeuf and Kara True posted the victories for the Redhawks.

Softball swept

The Southeast softball team wrapped up a miserable weekend Sunday with an 11-1 OVC loss at Jacksonville State.

The game was stopped after 4 1/2 innings by the run rule.

Southeast dropped Saturday's doubleader in a pair of run-rule decisions, 12-1 and 9-0.

The Redhawks, who have lost seven straight, fell to 12-15 overall and 3-6 in the OVC. Southeast fell to eighth place in the nine-team league. First-place JSU is 24-9 and 9-1.

The Redhawks were outhit 26-8 in the series. They had four hits Sunday.

Freshman Stefanie Barnes (3-4) took the loss, allowing eight hits and 10 earned runs in four innings. She walked seven and struck out one.

Southeast returns to action 3 p.m. Wednesday with a nonconference home doubleheader against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
