The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics squad was recognized by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches as a NACGC Academic Team for its work in the classroom during the 2006 season.
In addition to the team accolade, eight Southeast gymnasts were honored by the NACGC for individual academic excellence with NACGC Scholar Athletes awards.
It marks the seventh consecutive year that the Redhawks have received the team honor. It is also the first time Southeast has posted a top-five showing by finishing fifth. Southeast had a cumulative grade point average of 3.54, better than the previous team GPA of 3.15 set during the 2004-05 school year.
Tara Boldt, Lexie Hein, Brystol Powelski, Sandra Blake, Jennifer Dinan, Maureen Grimaldi, Kelsey Stauffer and Chelsea Unold were honored as NACGC Scholar Athletes for having GPA's of 3.50 or better.
"We worked hard in the gym and classroom, and I am proud of the team's achievements," said Southeast coach Tom Farden, whose 2006 squad qualified for the NCAA regional meet.
