The Southeast Missouri State women's tennis team handed first-year coach Mark Elliott his initial Ohio Valley Conference victory Sunday as the Redhawks beat host Jacksonville State 4-3.
Southeast (3-4, 1-1 OVC) had dropped its conference opener the day before, falling 5-2 at defending league tournament champion Samford.
The Redhawks dropped the doubles point Sunday but rallied to win four of the six singles matches. Bryce Kristal, Drew Kristal, Luz Garcia and Elise Nattier all prevailed for the Redhawks in singles.
The Kristal twins also won in doubles, although the Gamecocks captured the other two doubles matches.
Bryce Kristal and Nattier provided the lone wins for Southeast in singles play against Samford.
Southeast plays a non-conference match at Arkansas State Friday before opening its home schedule Sunday against OVC rival Morehead State.
