The Southeast Missouri State softball team gave defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Tennessee Tech all it could handle during their weekend series in Cookeville, Tenn.
But the Redhawks came away with only one win to show for their strong play following Saturday's 3-2 loss in 12 innings.
Tech improved to 17-16-1 overall and 3-2 in OVC play, while Southeast fell to 11-16 and 1-5.
After the squads split Friday's doubleheader, the Eagles pushed across a run in the bottom of the 12th inning Saturday to win the series.
Both teams tallied runs in the sixth inning, which is how things stood after the regulation seven frames.
The Redhawks went ahead 2-1 in the top of the 11th, but the Eagles tied things in the bottom of the inning before ending the contest in the bottom of the 12th.
Southeast senior ace Elaine Fisher started and finished the game, although freshman Whitney Dupuis also saw action on the mound.
Fisher was the tough-luck loser as she worked 10 innings, allowing nine hits and the three runs. Dupuis worked 1 1/3 scoreless frames.
The Redhawks matched Tech with nine hits. Jennifer Vasquez, Lauren Bradley and Alex Ramirez all had two hits. Vasquez and Megan McDonald drove in Southeast's runs.
Southeast hosts Eastern Illinois on Tuesday in a 3 p.m. OVC doubleheader.
Tennis loses pair
The Southeast women's tennis team suffered a pair of OVC losses in Kentucky over the weekend, 5-2 to Eastern Kentucky on Friday and 4-3 to Morehead State on Saturday.
Bryce Kristal won both her matches at No. 1 singles for the Redhawks (3-8, 2-3). She also teamed up with twin sister Drew to capture both matches at No. 1 doubles.
No. 4 Alyce Kelly won in singles against Eastern Kentucky, while No. 3 Julia Masotti prevailed against Morehead State.
Southeast will return to action with three nonconference matches in Macomb, Ill., March 29 and 30, facing host Western Illinois, Upper Iowa and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
