Redhawks ends slide, defeat Tech 5-1

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --Freshman Courtney Alexander and sophomore Megan McGrath each scored a pair of goals as the Southeast Missouri State women's soccer team snapped a two-game slide with a 5-1 victory over Tennessee Tech.

Sophomore Casey Kraft scored her first goal -- the game winner -- as Southeast evened its record at 6-6 overall and improved to 3-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Alexander put Southeast ahead 1-0 at the 2:19 mark off an assist from Margie Schaeffler. After Tech tied the score about 14 minutes later, Kraft answered just two minutes later, scoring off an assist from Megan Matter.

Southeast built on its 2-1 lead in the second half. Alexander scored again at the 52-minute mark on an unassisted goal. McGrath capped the scoring with her two goals, with Lauren Lacopo assisting on the second tally.

Southeast outshot Tech (1-10-3 overall, 0-4-2 OVC) 13-11, but held an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Redhawks goalkeeper Lindsay Pickering, who gave way to freshman Rachel Harrington late in the contest, made one save. Tech goalkeeper Loretta McNamee was credited with six saves.

Southeast returns to action Friday night, when Morehead State visits for a 7 p.m. contest.
