Redhawks' Davis earns academic All-American in volleyball

Southeast Missouri State volleyball player Molly Davis has received one of the premier honors available to a collegiate student-athlete.

Davis, a junior libero, on Monday was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American third team for her achievements on the court and in the classroom.

Davis becomes the first Southeast volleyball player to make academic All-American since Pam Kirsch in 1992.

A starter since her freshman season, Davis led the Redhawks and ranked fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference in digs this year with an average of 4.61 per game.

Davis is third on the school's career digs list with 1,624, just 13 behind all-time leader Leslie Caughman. Davis is the school's career leader in digs at the Division I level.

A native of Muncie, Ind., Davis owns Southeast's Division I single-season digs record with 637, set last year. That mark ranks third on Southeast's all-time single-season list.

Academically, Davis holds a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in sport management. She was one of only four athletes named academic All-American with a perfect GPA.

Davis has been a recipient of the OVC's highest academic award, the Medal of Honor, for having the highest possible GPA in her sport.
