The Southeast Missouri State baseball team, off to a 2-1 start, will open its home schedule today when Northern Colorado visits Capaha Field for a 2 p.m. start.
That will begin a four-game series that features a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and a noon contest Sunday.
Southeast took two of three during a season-opening series at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Northern Colorado is 2-3, which includes a four-game split at 20th-ranked Texas A&M. The Bears went 16-35 last season.
Softball tourney in doubt
The status of the four-team All-Missouri Cancer Tournament that was supposed to serve as the opening of Southeast's home softball schedule is up in the air.
Saturday's opening rounds of the two-day event already have been cancelled due to poor field conditions caused by the recent ice storms.
The determination of Sunday's play will be decided today.
Sunday's tentative schedule includes Southeast (5-5) facing Missouri-Kansas City at 10 a.m. and Saint Louis at 4 p.m., but that is not set in stone. Missouri State also was supposed to participate in the tournament.
On the Saint Louis roster is former Notre Dame High School all-stater Kristain Burger.
Burger, a freshman first baseman, was expected to be among the Billikens' top players but she has appeared in only one game because of knee problems.
Gymnasts fall on road
Despite its second-highest score of the season, the Southeast gymnastics team suffered a 194.850 to 194.225 loss at Brigham Young on Wednesday night.
The Redhawks (3-5) claimed two titles as Sandra Blake tied for first on floor (9.825) and Rikara Turner tied for first on beam (9.800).
Southeast's Brianna Gaddie was third on vault (9.850), and Turner finished second in the all-around (38.850).
The Redhawks have their third straight road meet Sunday, visiting Illinois State at 4 p.m.
Tennis opens OVC
The Southeast women's tennis squad begins Ohio Valley Conference play Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at Austin Peay.
Southeast is 1-3 so far during nonleague matches, beating Nebraska-Kearney while losing to Missouri, Nebraska and Illinois-Chicago. Austin Peay is 0-6.
The Redhawks have their first home match March 6 when OVC rival Murray State visits.
