Redhawk gymnasts defeat Illinois St. in home finale

Southeast Missouri State's gymnastics team celebrated senior day Sunday with a victory, rolling past Illinois State 192.975-189.125 at Houck Field House.

The Redhawks (5-5) dominated the dual meet as they won every event, including taking the top three spots in the all-around competition.

Junior Tara Boldt won the all-around with a score of 38.850, followed by freshman Allison Ezell (38.625) and senior Katie Bloom (38.075).

Boldt also won beam (9.800), while other event winners for Southeast were Bloom on bars (9.650), senior Alexis Traylor on floor (9.850) and freshman Danyelle Aber on vault (9.700).

Boldt had three second-place finishes (vault, 9.675, bars, 9.600, floor, 9.775).

Ezell turned in two third places (bars, 9.550, beam, 9.700), while freshman Jennifer Kaye was also third (vault, 9.650).

Southeast has three seniors: Bloom, Traylor and Crystal Ebarhardt.

"It was great we could send the seniors out with a victory in their last home meet," Southeast coach Tom Farden said.

The Redhawks return to action Saturday at Centenary.

Softball falls to Missouri

Southeast suffered its second loss in two days to pitcher Jen Bruck and the Missouri Tigers.

Bruck (5-1), who combined with teammate Erica Peterson for a no-hitter over the Redhawks on Saturday, allowed three hits over four innings in Missouri's 6-2 victory. Peterson finished up with three hitless innings, striking out eight and walking one.

Lindsay Webb had a double and two RBIs, while Lindsay Pickering and Stephanie Huffman each added singles for Southeast (3-5).

Losing pitcher Amy Fahnestock allowed eight hits in six innings.

Missouri (15-2) scored four runs in the second and added two in the sixth. Southeast scored both its runs in the third.

Heather Kunkel blasted a home run for Missouri, and Amanda Renth had two hits.
