Scott City continues its winning ways with a 69-43 win over Advance in the first round of the Red Devil Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 2, in Chaffee, Mo.

Gracie Karrenbrock led the Rams with 18 points. Ramsey Spinks scored 13 points for Scott City, who also made 9-of-14 from the free throw line.

As one of the senior leaders, Karrenbrock has consistently been the top scorer for the Rams so far this season.

"She's a great player," Scott City head coach Cindy Henry said. "She's a great leader. She handles the ball well. She knows the pressure well and she communicates well with her team. She's just a great athlete for us."

After leading 19-15 in a contentious first quarter, the Rams turned up the pressure on defense and held the Hornets to only two points in the second quarter, entering halftime with a 31-17 lead.

"We're working really hard on understanding our roles on defense," Henry said.

That period proved to be the difference in the game, as the Rams went on cruise control in the second half, outscoring the Hornets 29-26 through the final two quarters.

Kaylee Cline led the Hornets with 17 points, followed by 10 from Natalee Roper. Advance collectively made 9-of-18 shots from the charity stripe.

Advance (0-4) will take on Puxico (0-4) in the consolation round of the tournament on Monday, Dec. 4, at 4:30 p.m.

Scott City (5-0) will take on Woodland (3-1) in the semifinal round of the tournament on Monday, at 7:30 p.m. The Cardinals defeated Puxico 41-2 on Saturday afternoon, as Cadence Rivet scored the Indians’ only two points in the game, which came in the final minute of the third quarter.

Only four Woodland players scored. Addyson Massa scored 17 points for the Cardinals, followed by 15 from Mallory Barks, six from Tallie Johnson, and a three-pointer from Maci McIntyre.

The matchup renews a Class 3 District 2 rivalry, a district that Woodland has won in the past three seasons.

"I think they're going to be a tough team to beat now and they'll probably be a tough team to try to beat then," Henry said.
