Rams makes us all a little dizzy

It's easy to go over to the water cooler and tell your co-worker that yesterday's game looked like the same old Rams, because in a way it was.

The same old coach was still calling the shots -- and bad ones at that.

Let's start with the call to keep Kurt Warner in the game after he sustained a concussion. Granted, it was a mild concussion and the medical team cleared him to play, but a concussion is a concussion -- it's still a bruise to the brain.

Martz said after the game that Warner didn't even seem to understand some of the plays they were calling from the sidelines.

That's probably about the time you want to pull him out -- especially when you have a more than capable backup on the sidelines.

Last week, I was a huge advocate of Warner and I still am. Confidence in your quarterback is one thing. But when is enough, enough?

Martz also said that he, "probably shouldn't have played him in the second half."

If Marc Bulger came into the game, he could have led the Rams back and in the process ignited a controversy. So, Martz stayed with Warner because he didn't want a controversy swirling around the team.

I turn to the words of some guy from Lord of the Rings who said, "Whether you would wish it or not, open war is upon you."

If Warner knew what day it was, I'm sure he'd remember to read all about his week ahead:

Today

Central and Jackson softball make-up their rainout from earlier this season. Jackson (4-2) visits Central (4-4) at 4 p.m. It will be played barring, of course, another rainout.

Tuesday

The Rockies have fallen into a familiar niche again this season. They know the role of spoiler all too well, but that doesn't mean they're getting good at it. The Rockies are 20-52 on the road this year. Cards host the Rockies at 7:10 p.m.

There will be hair-dying and probably some hair-pulling in this one. Notre Dame was destroyed in their own Soccerfest tournament last weekend by Central, 7-0. I'm sure they want some of their pride back. Central at Notre Dame at 7 p.m.

Thursday

Central doesn't have a home game on Friday night this year. That could be bad for the little kiddies with homework -- but they must play on because Central was unbeaten on Thursday nights last year. New Madrid County visits Houck Stadium at 7 p.m.

Friday

It's hyped as one of the greatest rivalries ever. The 30-minute drive from Cape Girardeau is worth it for this one. Charleston at Sikeston at 7 p.m., that's all you need to know.

Saturday

The Auburn Tigers have slipped all the way out of the top 25, but they'll be back. Their defense is spectacular and the Tigers should get their first win Saturday when Vanderbilt visits. The game kicks off at 11:30 a.m., for tickets visit www.vucommodores.com.

I was at the Missouri/Illinois game two weeks ago in St. Louis. Brad Smith is even more exciting in real life, rather than through the air waves. I was in awe and I'm sure Eastern Illinois University will be, too. Mizzou comes home to take on EIU at 1 p.m.

If Southeast Missouri State can't score at Arkansas State this weekend, this season is over before it even started. Who knew the Indians would be 0-2 going into this one? 6 p.m.

Sunday

Don't be surprised if your starter for this game is Bulger. The Rams host the 49ers and don't be surprised if you can't get tickets. Noon
