ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Rams have hired Chris Weinke as quarterbacks coach.
Weinke played seven NFL seasons after winning a Heisman Trophy and leading Florida State to a national championship. He had been director of the IMG Academy program in Bradenton, Florida, helping college prospects including Teddy Bridgewater, Cam Newton and Russell Wilson prepare for the NFL draft.
The Rams also interviewed Jeff Garcia before choosing Weinke, who concluded his playing career in 2007 with the 49ers. He replaces Frank Cignetti, recently promoted to offensive coordinator.
