JACKSON -- Scott City's Lance Amick was perfect at the plate Wednesday and John Wipfler went the distance on the mound in an 8-3 Rams' victory over host Jackson.

Wipfler walked none, struck out five and allowed seven hits in seven innings. Amick went 4-for-4 to lead Scott City (7-7). Brandon Amick and Pat Johnston added three hits apiece.

Justin Gladish had three hits for Jackson (8-12). Paul Johns pitched five innings for the loss.

Tuesday at Farmington, Jackson lost in eight innings to the Knights 3-2.

Chris Schlick was saddled with the loss, allowing two earned runs on four hits in going the distance. Travis Steven had two of Jackson's five hits.

Jackson visits Sikeston today to close out the regular season.

Chaffee 3, Charleston 0

CHAFFEE -- The Red Devils finished off their regular season at home Wednesday with a strong pitching performance by Matt Stroup.

Stroup went the distance, striking out eight while allowing only five hits and a walk. Chaffee improved to 14-7 overall and will host the Class 2A, District 2 Tournament starting Monday.

Dusty Leggett had two of Chaffee's five hits, including a two-run single in the third inning. Chaffee added anther run in the fifth.

Kelly 3, Portageville 2

BENTON -- Portageville outhit the Hawks Wednesday, but Kelly scored two runs in the sixth inning and got out of a base-loaded jam in the seventh for the win.

Jason Glastetter (3-2) pitched all seven innings for the win, allowing six hits. Kelly, which had only four hits, improved to 14-4.

Glastetter had one of those hits and added an RBI. With the score tied 1-1 in the sixth inning, Jeff Pattengill roped a two-out, RBI pinch-hit to put Kelly on top to stay.

Portageville (12-11) loaded the bases in the seventh inning, a line-drive double play to second base ended the game.

Kelly finishes its regular season at Kennett today.

Oak Ridge 7, Leopold 4

OAK RIDGE -- The Blue Jays ended the regular season with a 7-9 mark after Wednesday's win.

Matt Preusser went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Darren Hahs was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Blake Friese added a two-run home run.

Beau Morrison added two hits and picked up the save. Darren Hahs pitched into the sixth inning for the win, striking out seven, walking eight and allowing only one hit.

SOFTBALL

Chaffee 15, Charleston 0

CHAFFEE -- Chaffee completed another impressive season Wednesday by romping in a three-inning, run-rule game.

The Lady Red Devils wound up with a 15-2 record.

"We had a great season," said coach Mark Devenport. "The girls really did a good job."

Jamie Duncan pitched a one-hitter to finish the season at 7-1. She fanned six and walked one.

Chaffee's offense was led by Jodi Pfefferkorn. She had two hits, including a three-run home run, and drove in four runs.

Jennifer Siebert, Brandi Foulk and Chris Benton also all had two of Chaffee's nine hits. Benton had three RBIs while Siebert stole three bases.

Scott City 7, Oran 1

SCOTT CITY -- Lindsey Baker had two hits and pitched into the seventh inning Wednesday to lead Scott City.

The Lady Rams used nine hits to improve their season record to 7-5. Amy O'Brien, Jessica Dees and Tonya Mathews all had two hits. Baker allowed four hits and struck out four. O'Brien got the last two outs of the game.

Melissa Loper and Kelly Wheeler split Oran's four hits.

Scott City completes its season in the Sikeston Tournament this weekend. The Lady Rams play Friday against Sikeston at 5:30 p.m.

BOYS TENNIS

Class 4A, District 1

ST. LOUIS -- Cape Central placed seventh out of nine teams Wednesday in the Class 4A, District 1 Tournament at Dwight Davis Tennis Complex in Forest Park.

"We made a lot of progress this season," said Central coach Bud Craven, whose squad went 9-5 in dual matches this year. "We have a young team and we'll have a lot coming back next year."

Ben Roeger advanced to the quarterfinals, winning his first two matches before losing to the tourney's second-seed. Senior Aaron Moore won one match before falling to the fourth seed.

Central's doubles teams of Drew Seib-Nick Metzger and Sean Maguire-Nathan Skinner lost both of their matches.

GOLF

St. Vincent wins title

BONNE TERRE -- St. Vincent won Wednesday's Jefferson County Conference Tournament, shooting a team score of 319.

Hillsboro was second in the six-team event at 332. Perryville finished fourth at 346.

St. Vincent had the top two medalists in Craig Schumer (76) and John Paulus (78).

Perryville's Derek Cattoor (81) tied for third.
