SCOTT CITY -- Grandview High's football team wears the "G" of the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers on its uniforms, but that's where the similarity between the two teams ends.
Scott City took advantage of Grandview's "greenness" -- the Eagles have only three starters from last year's 1-9 team -- by scoring twice in the first 27 seconds of the game and holding Grandview to a microscopic five yards total offense in the first half.
Despite being without its top two rushers and leading receiver, Scott City beat Grandview 34-6 Friday night to improve to 3-1, dropping the Eagles to 1-3.
After Scott City's Dale Burger ran the opening kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown, Grandview coughed up the ball on its first play of the game and Adam Spinks gathered it and ran 25 yards for a score.
Before running their first play from scrimmage, the Rams led 12-0.
Despite the quick lead and easy win, Scott City coach Terry Flannigan was not overly impressed with his team's play.
"(Grandview) doesn't have near the team they've had in the past, and we had them down, but we just didn't go ahead and put the nail in the coffin; we just kind of backed off. We didn't play a total ballgame; we played in spurts," Flannigan said.
Scott City limited Grandview to just 57 yards total offense for the game and only one first down.
Although the Rams were hit with numerous penalties and didn't play a consistent game, which at times could be attributed to JV players seeing varsity action, Scott City enjoyed enough spurts to cruise to victory.
Scott City took a 20-0 lead later in the first quarter on John Wipfler's interception and 15-yard run for a touchdown. The Rams led 27-0 at halftime after quarterback Lance Amick connected with Brandon Amick for a 25-yard touchdown.
The lead grew to 34-0 in the third quarter on Terry Enderle's 30-yard run.
Grandview's only score came in the fourth quarter. Charles Boyer returned a punt 50 yards against primarily Scott City JV players.
"Defensively we played pretty well, but we had trouble moving the football. We are very young this year, and (we) got a little shell shocked," said Grandview coach Steve Nausley.
With leading rushers Howie Stubenrauch (wrist) and Travis Burger (finger) out with injuries, along with leading receiver Wes Littleton (ankle), Enderle, a junior, took advantage and led the Rams with 84 yards on 12 carries. Quarterback Amick was eight of 19 for 135 yards and was intercepted once.
