SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- The Scott City Rams handed first-year head coach Kerry Thompson his first victory Tuesday night with a 71-58 victory over Woodland.

D.J. Walton led Scott City (1-5) with 18 points while Andy Beck came off the bench to tally 17. Chad Weatherspoon added 12 points.

"It was huge win for us," said Thompson. "We had a lot of guys come off the bench and provide big minutes."

The Rams held a 33-32 lead at halftime and outscored the Cardinals 18-11 in the third quarter for a 51-43 advantage. Scott City pulled away in the final eight minutes.

Thompson said the win was particularly important since the Rams were playing their final game before the University High Christmas Tournament.

"It was big for the coaching staff and the players," said Thompson. "I think practice will be a little different tomorrow."

Michael Owens scored a game-high 20 points for Woodland. Alex VanGennip finished with 19 and Travis Benfield added 10.

Scott City's JV won 54-34.
