~ Scott City rolled to a 36-6 victory to extend its winning streak over Chaffee to 21 straight.

Scott City football coach Terry Flannigan reached into his bag of tricks on several occasions at home Friday night, and in the process helped the Rams continue their domination of rival Chaffee with a convincing 36-6 romp.

The win was the 21st straight for Scott City during the rivalry, and it left both Scott City and Chaffee at 2-3.

The Rams recovered two second-half onside kicks, threw four halfback passes and converted a 30-yard hook-and-ladder play for a touchdown.

"We came out and felt we had to do something there early," Flannigan said. "We put on some razzle-dazzle plays and they paid off. When they pay off you look good, and when they don't you look like an idiot."

On the first offensive play of the game, Scott City running back Cody Carlyle hit Jamie Pinkston for a 60-yard gain that took the ball inside Chaffee's 10. The Rams settled for a field goal on the drive, but they were just getting started.

Later in the first, Scott City faced a fourth-and-nine at the Chaffee 30. After Chaffee's timeout, Ethan Watkins found Pinkston near the first-down marker, and Pinkston pitched the ball to Carlyle, who went in untouched for a touchdown.

A two-point conversion put Scott City ahead 11-0 with 6:19 remaining in the first.

Vickery said he was not surprised by the trick plays.

"We knew they were coming, it's just a matter of execution," he said. "They executed and we didn't. Give them credit. They had a good plan and they did a good job executing it."

After having little offensive success in the first half, Chaffee took advantage of a rare Scott City mistake to get on the board. A fumbled punt return gave the Red Devils the ball on Scott City's 31.

Michael Lee hit Andrew Hendrix for a third-down conversion on the drive, and Steven Atkinson took the ball in from 2 yards out to close the gap to 11-6.

Chaffee was set to get the ball coming out of the half down 11-6, but Scott City was able to recover an onside kick to get the ball in Chaffee territory. Chris Blankenship scored less than a minute later on a 24-yard run.

Blankenship finished with two touchdowns and 152 yards rushing on 21 carries. Carlyle added 115 yards on 16 carries and two touchdown runs to give him three touchdowns on the night.

"We needed that for our guys up front to show them we can," Flannigan said of the rushing yards. "We still have a way to go [with our running game], but at least we took a step forward."

Carlyle was 3 for 3 on halfback passes for 113 yards, and Chaffee committed a pass interference penalty on Carlyle's other pass. Pinkston caught all three passes from Carlyle, and finished with five catches for 132 yards. Blake Dirnberger caught a pair of passes for 53 yards.

Jerrod Steger led Chaffee with 119 yards rushing on 21 carries.

"We did some good things tonight," Vickery said. "Our defense, to tell the truth, did a good job. We gave up some big plays, some trick plays."
