Jackson's Kamden Rampley finished 6-0 to win the 215-pound weight class at the Parkway South wrestling tournament in Manchester, Mo., on Saturday.

The Indians finished second in the 12-team field with 291 points. Jackson finished behind only the 312.5 posted by Fort Zumwalt West, which was second in the state in Class 4 last year. Rounding out the top five were Seckman, Lafayette and Lindbergh.

Justin Miller (125 pounds), Josh Schumacher (145 pounds) and Ben McMillian (152 pounds) all finished second with 5-1 marks. Arik Coffel (135 pounds) and Cole Jansen (heavyweight) both had third-place finishes, also finishing 5-1 on the day.

Luke Rayburn (112 pounds) and Russell Brown (140 pounds) finished fourth, and each was 4-2. Jamie Schumacher (130 pounds) and Anthony Werner (160 pounds) finished fifth, also posting 4-2 records.

JV -- Jackson finished third among 12 teams with 302.5 points. Parkway South finished second with 326.5, and Seckman was first with 350 points.

Bryan Sladek (140 pounds), Justin Darnell (152 pounds), Tyler Ptacek (189 pounds) and Ryan Kessinger (215 pounds) each finished second. Kyle Brown (130 pounds) and Demarcus Huddleston (171 pounds) each finished third. James Perkins (145 pounds) and Ben Wood (heavyweight) were fourth. Perry Hazelwood (119 pounds) and Ian Fitzgerald (160 pounds) were fifth. Michael Grafe (103 pounds) finished sixth.

Fox tournament

The Central wrestling team finished 0-5 in the dual-meet format tournament at Fox High School in Arnold, Mo., on Saturday.

Central lost 46-20 to Hazelwood East, 56-9 to Fox, 51-28 to North County, 47-25 to Winnetonka, and 40-33 to Belleville East.

Central's top performers were 119-pounder Chris Griffith, 125-pounder Matt Latham and 152-pounder Garrett New. Each of them had four wins in five matches.

Brandon Reynolds (112 pounds) finished with a 3-2 record in Centrals' season-opening event.

"It showed us what we need to work on," Central coach Josh Crowll said. "I think it will help refocus the kids. It's early in the year, and we've got room for improvement."

GIRLS BASKETBALL Farmington tournament Jackson 50, Farmington 27

Jackson improved to 3-0 Saturday night and claimed the tournament championship by beating the host team Saturday night.

"We played a lot better tonight than last night," Jackson coach Sam Sides said. "We hit a few 3s, and that helped us, and we made some free throws. Our team defense was better tonight, too, I thought."

Jackson next plays Saturday at Berkeley in St. Louis County.

Perryville finished 0-3 in the season-opening round-robin Potosi tournament with a loss to North County.

Tyler Bauwens scored 14 points for the Pirates, and Rick Dunn added 13.
