The Central and Jackson softball teams were engaged in quite a pitcher's duel -- until the rain came.
A thunderstorm put an end to the scoreless game at Central after the top of the eighth inning. It is not known whether the schools will attempt to continue the contest at a later date.
Central's Amanda Nichols allowed just two hits in eight innings, with nine strikeouts and no walks.
Jackson's Sheila Wade gave up only one hit in seven innings, with eight strikeouts and two walks.
The Tigers' lone hit was a single by Mia Russell in the sixth inning.
The Indians' hits were a fifth-inning double by Amanda Pitts and a sixth-inning single by Hana Bolen.
Kelly overcame a rocky start to beat visiting Chaffee.
The Hawks (21-5) allowed two unearned runs in the first inning and committed five early errors. But they eventually settled down.
Kalie Hughes was the winning pitcher with 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief. She struck out five and walked none.
Hughes also tripled and doubled, Brittany Ponder doubled twice and Sarah Ruff added two hits for Kelly, which had eight hits.
Rachel Hendrix had three of Chaffee's (8-11) four hits.

Delta blanked visiting St. Vincent in a game stopped after the top of the sixth inning by lightning.
Kendra Burnett pitched a five-hitter and she also went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three stolen bases. Kaci Menz went 3-for-3 for the Bobcats (9-7).
