Due to recent rain, Dalhousie Golf Club has pushed back its opening date to the public, originally planned for June 15.

Jack Connell, the director of golf, said the 18-hole layout will likely open closer to the end of June. He plans to announce a date in the next couple of weeks.

Connell said rain has delayed the construction of cart paths and the chore of putting sand in bunkers. Currently about half the course has sand in place.

The layout, a Gary Nicklaus design that will eventually feature 27 holes, has been open to members on a limited basis since November. Members are walking but are not allowed to bring guests yet.

Connell said there has been talk of holding a grand opening, but it won't be when the course actually opens.

"We may delay a grand opening until fall when we can get Nicklaus in," Connell said.

The course is planned to be the centerpiece of a residential community, Prestwick Plantation.
