The Tigers' swimmers took third while Notre Dame was fourth.
The Central and Notre Dame boys swimming teams finished behind two St. Louis County private schools in the Central Quad meet Thursday at Central Municipal Pool.
Central was third with 521.5 points, while Notre Dame finished fourth at 363. Chaminade (704.5) and De Smet (653) claimed the top two spots.
"Chaminade looked extremely strong," Central coach Dayna Powell said. "It's been a long time since we've been able to beat those teams. They're just so deep. But it's good for our team to see what's out there."
Notre Dame's Jameson Kuper placed first in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 breaststroke events and was part of the second-place 200 medley relay.
Kris Metje of Central was first in the 500 freestyle event and qualified for the state meet in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 1 minute, 53.94 seconds. Kuper had previously made the cut.
Also making state cuts were Central's Jason Mercer in the 100 butterfly (57.87) and the Tigers' 200 free relay team of Mercer, Daniel Austin, Hunter Givens and Metje (1:35.11).
Central also placed three divers in the top four. Tanner Rust was second, followed by Chris Schindle and Dustin Welker.
"I was really pleased with the day as a whole," Powell said. "We've been doing some tough practices right now, and to do as well as they did, I was really happy about that. I think we swim better when we have better competition."
