Porter suffers hamstring injury

Otto Porter Jr., the third overall selection in last month's NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards and a former Scott County Central high school standout, suffered a hamstring injury while playing for the Wizards' summer league team and is officially listed as "day to day" by the ball club.

In an interview with reporters following Tuesday night's 97-69 Wizards win over the Denver Nuggets in Las Vegas, Nev., Porter said he didn't suffer the injury on one specific play, but that it "slowly happened." Porter scored four points in just 6 1/2 minutes in Tuesday's contest before his hamstring tightened up. He was held out of Wednesday's game against Memphis.

"I'll definitely be safe with this," Porter told reporters after the game in a video posted at MonumentalNetwork.com. "I really don't know yet. I'll see how I feel in the morning.

"Not that it's really serious, I just don't want it to become serious."

Porter added that, even if he misses the rest of summer league, he believes he will be in good shape entering training camp.

"I feel like I'm up to speed," he said. "It only took me a couple days for me to actually be up to speed."
