MALDEN, Mo. — The Portageville volleyball dynasty added another chapter to its legacy with a third consecutive Bootheel Conference Championship, after winning 3-1 over Senath-Hornersville on Thursday, October 12.
The Lady Bulldogs (24-4-2) exacted sweet revenge over the Lady Lions (13-12-2), returning the favor with set scores of 25-15, 14-25, 25-18, 25-18.
“Overall, we came out hot in the first set,” said Portageville coach Sasha Kellams. “We were swinging well. In the second set, we beat ourselves. We made a lot of silly mistakes. Thankfully, in the third and fourth sets, we were able to get it all back together and stay focused on our goal. I'm super proud of my girls. Even in times of adversity, they can pull through. They're fighters, and they went out there on a mission.”
Jayla Weddington (12 kills, three blocks, three digs and two assists), Ja’Niya Smith (19 digs, 10 kills, three aces, two blocks and one assist), Glo Farmer (12 digs, eight kills and one assist), Laney Stone (nine digs, eight kills and one block), Bryleigh Adams (three digs, two kills, two assists and one ace), Mia Scherer (24 assists and 14 digs), Aaliyah Larry (10 digs, nine assists and three aces) and Liza Priggel (two digs).
Portageville will conclude the regular season at Holcomb (18-9-2) on Monday, October 16, and at Risco (18-11-0) on Tuesday, October 17.
The Lady Bulldogs received the No. 2 seed in the MSHSAA Class 2, District 1 Tournament and will face the winner of No. 3 seed Malden (14-12-3) and No. 6 Caruthersville (6-14-0) on Thursday, October 19 at Malden High School.
