Portageville continued its gauntlet of a schedule, defeating Arkansas powerhouse Gosnell in a 19-6 border battle on Tuesday, April 2.

The victory marked the tenth state-ranked opponent the Bulldogs (11-4) have faced in just 15 games, a testament to their early-season challenges.

“It was nice to see the bats get rolling today,” said Portageville coach Tyler Trover. “Up and down the lineup we gave relentless at-bats, and constantly put pressure on them. Gosnell has one of the best small school programs in the state so to win like this was really surprising.”

Beau-Hunter Warren earned the win on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing four earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts. Huston Partin closed out the game, tossing 1.1 innings and surrendering no earned runs on a single hit.

Offensively, Mason Adams led the way with three hits, including a triple and two doubles, driving in two runs and scoring four times. Owen Roberts also had three hits, including two doubles, adding two RBIs and a run scored. Aaron Dunlap chipped in with two hits and three runs scored. Rylan Partin, Jayquan Bogan, and Xayvion Bogan each contributed doubles to the offensive onslaught.

“We know we have a very capable offensive core,” Trover added. “We just hadn’t put it all together. When we swing the bats like this, we have a very dangerous club.”

Gosnell dropped to 13-2 with the loss.

Portageville travels to New Madrid County Central (2-5) on Friday, April 5.
