SCOTT CITY -- With the score tied at 14 at halftime, Portageville scored twice in the second half, shut Scott City out during the span and emerged with a 28-14 win Friday.
The game was both teams' district opener. Scott City (6-2, 2-1 SEMO South) had its five-game win streak snapped. Portageville is also 6-2 and improved to 3-0 in SEMO South Conference play.
Scott City led 7-0 after Lance Amick's 9-yard touchdown pass to Steven Thomas in the first quarter.
Portageville then struck twice before the second quarter on Chris Robinson's 26-yard pass to Travis Huck and Gerald Pickering's 35-yard run.
The Rams scored the second quarter's only touchdown on Dale Burger's fumble recovery in Portageville's end zone.
In the third quarter, Dameon Gooden scored on a 9-yard run and in the fourth Pickering scored again, this time on a 1-yard carry.
North County 38, Perryville 6
PERRYVILLE -- North County outscored the Pirates 26-0 in the final three quarters and remained undefeated at 8-0.
Perryville fell to 3-5.
North County led 12-6 after one quarter. Perryville's Kyle Yamnitz sandwiched a 15-yard scoring run between two North County touchdowns in the opening quarter.
North County led 18-6 at the half and scored 13 points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth.
VOLLEYBALL
Bell City 15-15
Leopold 5-7
BELL CITY -- In this battle of Class 1A volleyball titans, defending state champion Bell City sprung to a 9-0 lead in the first game and never looked back.
The Lady Cubs improved to 27-1-1, dropping Leopold to 21-4-1.
"It's a big win for us; we played extremely well," said Bell City coach Carl Ritter. "We jumped on top of them early."
Leslie Lee led Bell City with 22 assists and eight service points. Courtney Brockmeyer had 10 kills and four digs, Laura Spears six kills and Jessica Shelby five kills.
April Jackson totaled five digs and Heather O'Reilly added four digs.
