PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — The Portageville girls’ basketball rebounded from a loss in the Bootheel Conference Championship with a 63-41 win over Scott City on Thursday, Feb. 9.
Amiyah Saxton had a game-high 18 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs (18-6), while Laney Stone added 10.
“It was a great team effort,” said Portageville coach Kellye Fowler. “We controlled the tempo from the beginning and were able to play our style of basketball. We did get in some foul trouble but we were able to handle it. Everyone knew their role and did their job when called upon.
“We also showed some mental toughness,” she continued. “And physical toughness by being able to bounce back after a tough loss the night before and playing our third night in a row.”
Portageville plays at Charleston (2-19) on Friday, Feb. 10, and will conclude its regular season at East Prairie (5-15) on Thursday, Feb. 16.
Gracie Karrenbrock led the Lady Rams (14-8) with 11 points.
Scott City travels to Puxico (6-15) on Monday, Feb. 13. The team will also be on the road at Oran (14-8) on Thursday, Feb. 16, and will host its regular season finale against Scott County Central (9-10) on Friday, Feb. 17.
