With six Poplar Bluff Mules competing at the Class MSHSAA Boys State Swimming Championships prelims, several swimmers wanted to put on a show Thursday at the City of St. Peters Rec Plex but it was only Mule who’d advance to a final.

Senior Carson Todd finished 10th in the prelims of th e 50-yard freestyle to advance to the final with a time of 22.08, just ahead of his seed time of 22.46. Top prelim time as Camden’s Ethan Vance and his time of 20.14 but Vance did post a 19.97 for his seed time. The only sub-20 second time.

The Mules were poised to make the final of the 200-yard freestyle relay but were disqualfified. Officials said a PB swimmer left the blocks before the wall was touched.

Poplar Bluff finished 20th in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:45.51

Todd took 20th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.37. Owen Daniel, a junior for the Mules, finished 29th in the 100-yard breastroke with a time of 1:05.65, nearly a second faster than his seed time of 1:06.43.

The Mules relay in the 400-yard freestyle finished 25th overall.

The finals are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Friday.
