POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The The Poplar Bluff softball team is establishing a new standard early this season.
The Mules beat Delta 10-4 on Saturday in its home opener to move to 2-0 this fall after winning three games last year.
Senior Courtney Campbell led the way for the Mules with three hits, while Karisa Coleman and Ally Brooks both added two hits.
The Mules got started in the bottom of the first. Coleman led off with a walk and Campbell doubled to deep left field to make it 1-0. Randy Montgomery then followed with a single to score Campbell to make it 2-0 before Brooks singled to right field to make it 3-0.
The Mules led 7-0 by the time the first inning ended.
Delta got a run in the second inning and two more in the third inning to get within four runs. The Bobcats had the bases loaded with just one out, but a fielder's choice to the pitcher and a pop out left Delta still down four runs.
