With Senior Kody Moore and junior Seth Ressel on the mound, there was no going wrong for the Oran Eagles at the Class 1 final four last week.

The pair took care of all the pitching -- and shortstop duties -- as the Eagles won their first state championship.

The biggest pitching quandary for Oran coach Mitch Wood at the final four was how to deliver his 1-2 punch.

"That was probably my toughest decision of the day was deciding who to pitch," Wood said after his team's 5-1 semifinal win against Sturgeon. "We've got two good kids who do a good job. ... I feel like they're both equal pitchers. Day 1 or 2, you don't know how they're going to come out, but if they both come out and throw their game, they're both pretty darn good."

Ressel was just that in a five-hit complete-game performance against Sturgeon on "Day 1." He struck out seven and walked just one batter.

Moore got the ball and the win on "Day 2" when Oran defeated defending state champion Santa Fe 8-4 for its first state title in 12 trips to the final four.

Moore allowed two earned runs and 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked three. He also helped his cause with two hits, two runs and two RBIs in the Eagles' decisive eight-run fifth inning.

He yielded to Ressel with two outs in the seventh, and Ressel secured the team's spot in school lore with a strikeout of the lone batter he faced.

For the season the pair combined for 16 pitching wins for Oran, which completed its journey with a 22-5 record.

Ressel went 10-2, while Moore was 6-2.
