Pirates' turnovers were treat for Potosi

One statistic made a big difference Friday night in Perryville's 37-14 loss at Potosi: Six turnovers.

"That will kill you," Pirates coach Rick Chastain said after his team fell to 3-2.

Ryan Lorenz was intercepted four times and Perryville lost two fumbles to the Trojans, who were celebrating homecoming.

"I don't think they were as good as the score, but they got the win," Chastain said. "They were ready to play and we weren't. I'll take the blame for that. I'm the head guy."

Potosi, which had 383 yards to Perryville's 218 for the game, led just 13-7 at halftime.

Sophomore Josh Perreault scored the Pirates' first touchdown on a blocked punt. He added a rushing touchdown in the second half.

Kris Cottner, the area's leading rusher, had 89 yards on 21 carries. Perrault had 32 on three carries. Lorenz passed for 65 yards, and Tyler Bauwens caught three for 57 yards.

Perryville plays a 2 p.m. Saturday game at Fredericktown for Week 6. It's homecoming for the Blackcats.

"We're everybody's homecoming," Chastain said. "When you go 0-10, that happens."
