It's just two weeks into the season, but Perryville, which was 0-10 last year, recorded its second straight victory Friday night to remain the lone unbeaten team of the six in the Southeast Missourian coverage area.

The Pirates defeated De Soto 24-6, as Kris Cottner rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns.

All the scoring was done by halftime.

Cottner rushed for a pair of touchdown runs of 37 yards in the first quarter, Ryan Schilling added a 41-yard run, and Trevor French hit a 22-yard field goal before De Soto (0-2) scored on a blocked punt.

Cottner carried the ball 30 times for the Pirates (2-0), while Schilling added 64 yards on nine carries.

Scott City 36, Portageville 6

The Rams bounced back from a season-opening loss by beating host Portageville.

Scott City, which lost to visiting Malden last week, improved to 1-1. Portageville fell to 0-2.

The Rams led just 8-0 at halftime but scored the first 22 points of the second half to pull away.

Ethan Watkins threw a pair of touchdown passes to Blake Dirnberger, covering 75 and 28 yards. Dirnberger also caught a two-point conversion pass from Watkins.

Chris Blankenship scored twice for the Rams, on runs of 6 yards and 1 yard. Shae Simmons scored on a 26-yard run. Cody Carlyle added a conversion run.
