PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Perryville received a 24-point performance from Chad Ozark as it overtook Jackson in the second half to post a 63-60 victory Friday night in boys basketball action.
Jackson took a 29-26 lead into the third quarter, but saw Perryville (11-7) move ahead with a 20-11 scoring advantage in the period. The Pirates were able to protect their 46-40 lead in the fourth quarter.
"We really concentrated on getting the ball inside to Ozark," said Perryville coach Jeff Steffens. "We played with a lot of confidence knowing that if we played well, we could get the job done."
Tyler Abernathy and Jason Dreyer each added 10 points for the Pirates.
Seth McDowell scored a team-high 19 points for Jackson (9-10) while Matt Ferrell scored 14 and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Brad Hilbert and Lance Bollinger each added 10 points.
"We didn't play bad, they just beat us," said Jackson coach Mike Kiehne. "They did what they needed to do to."
Kiehne acknowledged the damage administered by Ozark.
"He's deceptive, but he can play," said Kiehne. "He can put the ball in the hole."
Scott City 63, Hayti 56
SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Scott City overcame a 12-point first-quarter deficit to defeat Hayti.
Ben Sample led Scott City (12-5) with 18 points, including 10 in the second quarter when the Rams righted the ship. Scott City, which trailed 18-6 at the beginning of the second quarter, took a 26-24 lead into halftime, outscoring the Indians 20-6 in the period. Scott City built the lead to 45-34 by the end of the third quarter.
D.J. Walton added 14 points for Scott City and Craig Jungers scored 13, which included 8 of 8 free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter.
The Rams held a 29-25 rebounding advantage in the game and connected on 17 of 19 free throws.
"I thought we did a good job of mixing up defenses," said Scott City coach Derek McCord. "Rebounding and free-throw shooting were the difference."
Tremal Liddell led Hayti with 16 points while Ortiz Banks finished with 15.
Oak Ridge 83, Delta 82, OT
DELTA, Mo. -- Eleven players scored in double figures and 16 3-pointers were hit as Oak Ridge and Delta waged an overtime battle.
With 18 seconds left in regulation, Oak Ridge hit two free throws to tie the game at 70. The Bluejays could've prevented overtime, but missed the front end of a one-and-one and the game went into overtime.
Oak Ridge (4-11) outscored Delta 13-12 in the overtime period with Delta hitting a three at the buzzer to close the gap to one.
Beau Morrison led Oak Ridge with 20 points, followed by Jeff Cowen with 17, Clayton Ruesler with 11; and Adam Hahs, Ben Fadler and Alex Fadler all with 10.
Troy Nussbaum scored a game-high 23 for Delta, followed by Craig Bock with 16, Joey Keys and Lance Kinder with 15 and Rustin Johnson with 12.
Scott Co. Central 76, Chaffee 58
CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Chris Johnson scored 28 points as Scott County Central avenged a loss suffered to the Red Devils in the University High Christmas Tournament.
Todd Blissett added 16 points for the Braves.
Scott Central broke out to a 23-7 lead by the close of the first quarter and led 37-21 at halftime. The lead topped 20 points in the third quarter.
Chase Eskew paced Chaffee (5-9) with 21 points and Perry Rice netted 13.
Oran 61, Woodland 49
MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Oran used a strong second half and three players in double figures to knock off Woodland.
Woodland led 26-24 at halftime, but Oran outscored the Cardinals 20-12 in the third quarter for a 44-38 lead. The Eagles held a 16-11 scoring edge over the final eight minutes.
Patrick Friga scored 16 points to pace Oran while Adam Friga tallied 14 and Kevin Kielhofner netted 13.
Ryan Bandermann led Woodland with 16 points and Michael Owens added 10.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Jackson 62, Nerinx Hall 59
JACKSON, Mo. -- Andrea Koeper and Jenna Leet combined for 40 points as Jackson edged Nerinix Hall in a game that was tight throughout.
Koeper netted 21 points and Leet finished with 19 as Jackson improved to 12-3 on the season.
Jackson took a 17-14 lead into the second quarter, but saw Nerinx Hall move ahead by six points in the period before the teams settled for a 29-29 tie. Jackson managed to take a 47-46 lead into the fourth quarter and held off the Markers down the stretch.
Katie Moran tallied 20 points for Nerinx.
