Perryville senior Brittney Castleberry could not hold her top seed in the finals of the Class 3 100-meter hurdles despite a significant time drop Saturday and had to settle for second at the Class 3 and 4 state track and field championships at Dwight T. Reed Stadium in Jefferson City, Mo.

Castleberry finished with the top time in the preliminaries Friday, finishing in 15.28 seconds. In the finals, Caslteberry dropped her time to 14.82 seconds, but Pembroke Hill freshman Tiffani McReynolds finished well in front in 14.62 seconds.

Last year Castleberry finished eighth in the 100 hurdles in 15.70 seconds. Castleberry also earned all-state honors in the 300 hurdles Saturday, finishing fifth. She finished ninth in the long jump.

The area's other four-event qualifier, Jackson senior Rachel Kahle, added a pair of top-five finishes and three all-state performances Saturday. Kahle finished third in the Class 4 100, was fifth in the 200 and finished eighth in the triple jump.

Kahle finished sixth in both the 100 and 200 last year, and was all-state in the 100 each of the past three years.

Jackson freshman Landon Wachter was sixth in the 400, and fellow freshman Jill Rushin finished sixth in the shot put. Rushin also earned all-state in the discus Friday.

Central senior Brianna Egbuka finished fourth in the shot put. Jackson senior Amanda Peiffer was 13th.

The Indians finished tied for ninth with 21 points.

Perryville senior Cassie Lawrence finished 11th in the pole vault.

Notre Dame junior Matt Kiblinger finished sixth in the Class 3 discus. Also in Class 3, Perryville junior Kris Cottner was seventh in the 400.

Jackson senior Wren Harris was 12th in the high jump.

Central's boys finished 15th with 18 points.
