STE. GENEVIEVE -- The Perryville American Legion baseball team won its second straight District 13 Tournament title, beating Imperial 2-1 in 11 innings late Saturday night.
Perryville will take a 21-10 record into the Zone 4 Tournament that begins Thursday in St. Louis.
Ryan Tweedy pitched the first 10 innings, allowing one run and seven hits. He struck out three and walked two. Dustin Schmelzle hurled the final frame.
Perryville pushed across the winning run in the top of the 11th inning in most unusual fashion. Brandon Carroll led off with a walk, was sacrificed to second by Jeff Viox and moved to third on a ground out by Gabe Hotop. Carroll was then balked home.
Perryville scored its only other run in the opening inning as Ryan Wichern singled and came home on a Viox double. Imperial tied it in the second and that's the way things stood until the 11th.
