Perryville put itself in a position to make the state playoffs as the Pirates routed host Kennett 41-0 Friday night.

The Pirates (4-5) posted their third straight victory and improved to 2-0 in Class 3 District 1 play. They'll host Dexter, another 2-0 district squad, Friday for the district title and a playoff berth.

"We're really excited," Perryville coach Rick Chastain said. "These kids have been working real hard and it's the first time in a long time we've put ourselves in a position to do something.

"I know it's going to be a really tough game with Dexter, but we're looking forward to it."

Perryville totally dominated Kennett (1-8, 0-2), gaining 384 yards and allowing just 30 yards.

Matt Unterreiner continued his big season by rushing for 153 yards on 17 carries and scoring four touchdowns, on runs of 3, 19, 40 and 6 yards. Unterreiner has 16 touchdowns and more than 1,300 yards on the ground this year.

Clinton Rice added 92 yards on just three attempts, including a 64-yard touchdown.

Quarterback Cory Buerck completed three of five passes for 124 yards, including a touchdown to Greg Wibbenmeyer.

Hayti 51, Chaffee 6

Chaffee remained winless with a home loss as Hayti set up a Thursday showdown at St. Vincent for the Class 1 District 1 crown.

Hayti is 5-3 overall and 2-0 in district play. Chaffee is 0-9 and 0-2.
