PARK HILLS, Mo. -- Perryville avoided a first-round upset in the Park Hills Christmas Tournament, building on a two-point lead in the fourth quarter for a 66-56 victory over Marquand on Thursday.
Perryville, the third seed, received 18 points from Andrew Meyr and 17 from Jason Dreyer.
Heath Stephens scored a game-high 26 points for Marquand, the 14th seed.
Perryville (6-1) led 32-28 at halftime and took a slim 48-46 advantage into the fourth quarter. The Pirates outscored the Tigers 18-10 down the stretch.
The Pirates will face No. 6 De Soto at 7 p.m. today in a quarterfinal game.

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Tyler Wengert scored 21 points as St. Vincent won its opening game in the round-robin Ste. Genevieve Christmas Tournament.
Wengert was one of four Indians to finish in double figures as Wes Richardet and Adam Bockman both tallied 12 points and Andrew Prost had 10.
Leading 35-25 at halftime, St. Vincent (4-1) turned the game into a rout with a 25-5 scoring advantage in the third quarter.
St. Vincent will play Valle at 7:30 p.m. today for the pool title with the winner advancing to the championship game of the six-team tournament.

ST. LOUIS -- The Lady Pirates advanced to the consolation championship game of the Visitation Invitational with a victory over John Burroughs.
April Lorenz led the way with 21 points for Perryville, which improved to 6-5. Amanda Nuyt added 16 points and Emily Amberger finished with 11.
Perryville broke out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter and led 33-29 at halftime. The Lady Pirates took a 50-44 lead into the fourth quarter, where they played the Lady Bombers to a 13-13 deadlock.
