The Perryville boys basketball team closed out the month of January with a 62-35 loss against Jefferson on Wednesday, Jan. 31, in Perryville, Mo.

This was the second time Jefferson (15-5) had played Perryville. The Blue Jays won the first meeting last year by a score of 69-60.

The Pirates scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, but by then it was too late to mount a comeback against the Blue Jays, who had three players combine to outscore Perryville 46-35 by themselves.

Perryville kept the game close in the first half, trailing Jefferson 25-14 in what looked to be a low-scoring contest. The Blue Jays went on to outscore the Pirates 22-7 in the third quarter to put the game away.

The Pirates were led by junior Jake Cissell, who scored 14 points including three baskets from beyond the three-point line. Cole Rodewald was the next highest scorer with six of his eight points coming in the fourth quarter. Waylon Huber added five points while Aiden Wendel, Barrett Wheeler, Evan Hayden, and Karston Schilli each chipped in two points for the Pirates.

Perryville (2-17) will travel to DeSoto on Friday, Feb. 2. The Dragons previously defeated the Pirates 69-57 when Perryville was in the midst of a 10-game losing streak. DeSoto has won eight straight matchups against Perryville.
