A longtime tradition continued for football Friday as the Poplar Bluff Mules pinked out Mules Stadium for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in a matchup against the Kennett Indians.
The Mules stepped onto the field with the opportunity to extend their winning streak to four consecutive wins, and with a first-quarter eruption, they did not disappoint. With their offense clicking early, everyone got a piece of the action as they captured a whopping 42-7 win over Kennett.
A lot was on the line tonight, with both teams needing a win to improve their chances of hosting the first-round district game. Though the Mules are currently third in Class 5 District 1 standings, coach Dave Sievers said he wasn’t too concerned about their position and only cared about winning out the season.
The Mules had a dominant first half by scoring multiple touchdowns, which earned them a comfortable lead throughout the game.
Senior Logan Hite kicked off the run with a two-yard rushing touchdown within the first few minutes of the game, while Aiden Pratt, who led the Mules in touchdowns with two, followed with another two-yard run across the goal line.
The duo of Darius Graham and Romeoh Wontor would make history in the second half by stitching their names in the Mules football history books.
With a 27-yard touchdown pass from Jay Edmundson, Graham would move into the third spot on the Mules' all-time receiving yards list with 1,599 yards. Wontor would move into the 13th spot on his first catch of 42 yards to crack 1,000 yards receiving.
The Mules had no issues with a halftime decline this time around and would coast to an easy win after a powerful offensive performance.
Edmundson threw 9/10 on 174 yards with two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Kolyn McBride led the team in rushing yards with 67, and Wontor led in receiving with 55 yards.
The Mules improve to 5-3 on the season and will host Hillsboro next Friday on senior night.
