Meadow Heights and Notre Dame played it to the wire in a high school volleyball match Friday night, with the visiting Lady Panthers squeezing out a 12-15, 15-1, 16-14 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.
"It was a well-fought match," said Notre Dame coach Janet Buchheit. "Both teams battled hard. We just came up a little short."
For Notre Dame, Jennifer Glueck had 10 kills while Kelly Canfield added eight. Jessica Hency contributed four solo blocks.
Meadow Heights also won the JV match 15-8, 15-11.
Both teams will return to action Monday night, Notre Dame at Woodland and Meadow Heights hosting Leopold.
GIRLS SOFTBALL
Kelly 10, Perryville 0
BENTON -- Kelly picked up an easy win at home Friday as the Lady Hawks knocked off Perryville in a five-inning, run-rule game.
Brittany Lambert pitched all five innings for the Lady Hawks (8-3), allowing seven hits. She did not strike anybody out and also did not issue a walk.
All nine Kelly players had one hit.
"We played well," said Kelly coach Rhonda Evans. "Our defense was good and the hitting was spread out."
Kelly and Perryville will compete in the big 16-team Jackson Invitational today.
GIRLS TENNIS
Jackson 9, Carbondale 0
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Jackson improved to 9-2 in dual matches with an easy road victory Friday.
The Lady Indians dropped only 10 games in nine matches and they won four matches by shutout.
Jackson, which also won the JV contest 5-2, will host Cape Central Monday.
